Managerial Competency Training Series

It would be clear to any human resource leader or operations professional who works with employees that the weakest link in any organization is managerial competency – and the front–line supervisors.

Front-line supervisors are often promoted for their technical, mechanical or clinical prowess. But upon promotion to supervisory levels, they now oversee, direct, develop and discipline other employees, who are mostly doing the promoted individual’s former job.

The promotion requires a completely different skill set, which new supervisors do not always inherently have, nor have they been prepared for. Meanwhile, their strongest attributes are set aside, and instead, they are expected to manage other people. They also often may suffer from the conflicting sense of the need to be “liked” as a cohort member or being “respected” as the supervisor.
